Auditions

We do not do formal auditions for our Principal Choir. Our belief is that with good vocal training, and an enthusiastic teacher, anyone can learn to sing.  Potential choristers are invited to join us for a rehearsal. They will get a sense of how rehearsals work and will learn some basic warm ups. This allows us to assess a child’s ability to focus and learn and their innate musical sense. Parents are encouraged to stay.

Children who do not seem ready to join after a trial rehearsal will be given helpful guidance as to what they can work on in order to try again in the next season.  The most likely reason for a child being asked to wait a year before joining would be that they are having a lot of trouble concentrating, participating or paying attention.

Chamber choir

Our chamber choir accepts only experienced choristers aged twelve and up (grade 7 or higher). Auditions are held in an encouraging, positive and very informal setting. New choristers are invited to attend a rehearsal. They will see how rehearsals work and learn some vocalizations. This process allows us to assess their vocal range and get an idea of their ability to harmonize, read music and follow their part.
