As parents, we have to choose what activities to place our children in. They all cost money, and it can be very difficult making those choices from year to year.
What does singing in a choir offer my child?
- Musical education – rhythm, melody, harmony, theory, sight-singing
- Fellowship – friends of different ages from all across the region
- Confidence – performing on stage can be scary, but with a group, you can conquer that fear
- Performance experience – we sing our own concerts, but we also sing at community events, Museums, shopping malls, festivals, even on television
- Ability to learn – there are many studies** that demonstrate the scholastic benefits of music study in children, and singing in particular. Yes, singing in choir will help your child in school!
What does my registration fee pay for?
- Salaries – musical director, accompanist, other musicians
- Music – we buy real copies of our music to support the music publishing industry
- Photocopying – some of our music is bought online, and we pay for photocopy rights
- Music binders
- Rental fees – we rent our rehearsal space
- Insurance
Are there additional fees through the year?
- No. Your registration fee is the only fee. Your fee pays for a set number of rehearsals. In reality there will be some additional rehearsals and/or concert opportunities over the course of the year, however you will not be asked to pay extra for these. Any additional rehearsals or concerts are considered part of the basic fee.
- You will need to purchase concert tickets for the two regular concerts. Usually tickets sell for $10 – $20. Children and students are free.
- Additional “outside” concerts or performance opportunities may have an admission fee. The cost of these tickets is out of our control. However, if you do not want to buy a ticket you can drop your chorister and pick them up at the end of the concert.
